Walking and the Waiting…

I came to Spain with the heart and desire to be a fragrance of Christ along the pathways and trails of the Camino. I also came to physically challenge myself and to complete something that I knew would take great perseverance and endurance. My journey on the Camino however has looked much different than I thought it would. Due to physical pain in my foot and hip, I have had to take more rest days than I would have liked. On the third day of walking, I walked with two of my teammates and eventually joined up with two Danish guys we met a long the way. Truthfully, walking on that day was fairly excruciating and I had to stop many times to rest and massage my foot and treat my blisters. The whole group stopped and waited patiently for me as I tended to my ailments and not once did they act annoyed or bothered by it. I felt so loved that day by my team, our new Danish friends, and by the kindness of Jesus. We all took the day slow and enjoyed every step even through the pain. I began to share the Gospel with one of the Danish guys named Lasse. The more I shared about the goodness and love of Jesus, the less I felt the pain in my feet. I felt the presence of God as we walked. Towards the end of our conversation, Lasse said, “I hope I find Jesus or God along the Camino. “ I kindly responded by saying that the Bible actually says, “When you seek Him, you will find Him. “ Lasse responded by saying, “Well I hope so.” And I encouraged him with confidence saying that that was actually a promise and to seek Jesus with everything he has because Jesus loves him more than he could ever imagine. Later that evening, both Danish guys came to our team time and Lasse prayed out loud that he was thankful to finally know that he was really loved by Jesus. The day I had to stop and wait the most was actually the most fruitful time of my journey on the Camino so far. I pray that I never miss what Jesus is saying in the waiting because waiting on the way is actually a sweet invitation to draw closer to my Maker and hear His sweet and powerful voice along the journey. Please continue to pray for our team, for Lasse and Nikolai (the other Danish guy), and the rest of the pilgrims we will encounter over the next 4 days. Until All Have Heard, I will go….
